Hi, I’m Hannah

Welcome to RoomTint. If you have ever stood in the paint aisle holding five almost identical “warm whites” and felt your confidence slowly melt, you are exactly my kind of person. I’m Hannah Rossi, a hands-on DIYer who has spent years transforming spaces through the power of paint.

I’m not an interior designer with a fancy studio. I’m the friend who shows up on a Saturday with a roller, a snack stash, and way too many swatches, then talks you down from painting your north-facing bedroom a cool gray that is going to look like storm clouds by 3 p.m.

How I fell for paint

My love for paint started in my twenties, when friends and family were buying starter homes and renting apartments that needed a little help. Budgets were tight, so we did what scrappy DIYers do: we painted. A lot. Living rooms, hallways, trim, ceilings, bathroom vanities, and the occasional “What were we thinking?” accent wall that got repainted the following weekend.

Over time, I built an obsessively organized collection of swatches, and I started noticing patterns that weren’t obvious at first glance. The same beige that looked creamy in a sunny, south-facing room could turn greenish in a dim hallway. The crisp white that felt fresh in daylight could go icy under cool LEDs at night. That is when I stopped thinking of paint as “just color” and started treating it like lighting’s best sidekick and, sometimes, its biggest troublemaker.

What RoomTint does

RoomTint exists to take the anxiety out of choosing and using paint. Color decisions feel permanent, even though paint is one of the easiest things to change. My goal is to make the process clearer, calmer, and more predictable, so you can commit to a color and love what you see on the wall.

Here’s what you can expect when you read RoomTint:

  • Real-world color guidance. We talk undertones, light direction, sheen, and why your “perfect greige” sometimes reads purple.
  • Practical, step-by-step painting advice. The unglamorous stuff matters. Prep, patching, sanding, priming, cutting in, and clean lines.
  • Confidence for renters and homeowners. I love a full-room makeover, but I also love a simple refresh that makes your place feel more like you.
  • Plain-language recommendations. No fluff, no gatekeeping. Just helpful direction, like a knowledgeable friend guiding you through a weekend project.

A quick note about how I work: RoomTint is not a paint-company brochure. When I recommend a color family, a finish, or a tool, it is because it solves a real problem on real walls.

My approach

I’m patient and detail-oriented now, but that is mostly because I wasn’t always. I have skipped sanding and regretted it. I have rushed taping and ended up with messy baseboards. I have tried to “just do one coat” and watched the old color grin through like it was winning a contest.

So my approach is simple: focus on the few steps that actually change the outcome. In most rooms, the biggest difference-makers are:

  • Check the lighting. Look at color in morning light, afternoon light, and under your actual bulbs at night.
  • Sample on the wall. Bigger swatches beat tiny chips. Paint a test area and move it around the room.
  • Prep where your eyes linger. The wall behind your bed, the area near the window trim, the corners by the door. Those spots need love.
  • Pick a finish for real life. Matte can be great at hiding small bumps, but strong side light can still show texture, and some flat paints can scuff. Eggshell is forgiving, satin cleans easily. There is no moral victory in choosing the “designer” sheen if it does not suit your room.

What we nerd out on

If you hang around RoomTint, you’ll notice I get especially excited about the stuff that makes paint feel mysterious until someone explains it clearly.

Undertones

Warm versus cool is only the beginning. Many neutrals carry sneaky hints of green, pink, violet, or yellow. I’ll help you spot them before they take over your room.

Natural and artificial light

North-facing rooms, shaded windows, warm incandescent bulbs, cool LEDs, and high ceilings all change how color reads. I’ll show you how to work with your light instead of fighting it.

Clean lines and smooth walls

That “professional” look is rarely about talent. It is about prep, the right nap roller, a steady cutting-in brush, and letting paint dry when it says it needs to dry.

Start here

If you are new, here are a few easy ways to jump in:

  • Choosing whites: how to avoid the ones that go gray, yellow, or blue in your light
  • Sampling guide: how to test paint without repainting your whole room twice
  • Prep checklist: the small steps that make a big difference in the final finish

Come paint with me

I’m genuinely glad you’re here. Whether you are repainting one small bathroom, refreshing a rental living room, or finally choosing a whole-home neutral, my goal is for you to feel supported and capable from the first swatch to the final peel of painter’s tape.

So look around, grab a few color ideas, and keep it simple: pick a direction, test in your light, prep like you mean it, and trust that you can do this. A roller in your hand can change the vibe of your home faster than almost anything else.

Welcome to RoomTint.
